SEWERAGE PRICING
(includes Liquid Tradewaste)

  IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR
MACLEAY WATER'S NON-RESIDENTIAL SEWERAGE CUSTOMERS

Why Change the Sewerage Pricing?
Macleay Water has been asked by State Government to move from the current WC-based sewerage pricing to a more cost reflective, equitable sewerage pricing regime.

The sewerage pricing is for non-residential customers and will be similar to the water pricing. The sewerage pricing has an Access Charge and a Usage Charge. There is also an additional charge where the strength of a customer's sewage discharge requires more processing at the sewage treatment plant.

This additional charge is called a Liquid Trade Waste Charge. Where a non-residential customer's sewage discharge is deemed greater than that of a domestic strength, Liquid Trade Waste Charges will apply as well as the Sewerage Charges.
The Liquid Trade Waste Charges have an Annual Fee and a Usage Charge.

Sewerage Pricing relates to your water consumption
Sewerage pricing assumes that percentage of the water supplied to the customer is discharged to the sewerage system. The assumed percentage is called the Sewerage Discharge Factor, (SDF). The Sewerage Usage Charge is determined by multiplying the SDF by the water consumed.
  Usage Charge (sewerage)
= SDF x water consumption (kl)
The Access Charge for the sewer pricing is based on the size of the customer's water meter. The larger the water meter, the larger the Access Charge.

In a similar way, non-residential customers who discharge greater than domestic strength sewage will also have a Liquid Trade Waste Annual Fee and Usage Charge.

The Annual Fee is based on the "scale" of the discharger and their treatment regime; minimal pre-treatment, prescribed pre-treatment, large discharger, industrial waste discharger.

The Liquid Trade Waste Usage Charge is determined by multiplying the Trade Waste Discharge Factor, (TWDF) by the water consumed.
  Usage Charge (liquid trade waste)
= TWDF x water consumption (kl)

How will I know what my Discharge Factors are?
Macleay Water has provided information on this site.
The SDF varies per type of business and the Liquid Trade Waste Annual Fees vary on the scale of the business' sewage discharge. The Sewerage Access Charge will vary on the size of the water meter. A full list of SDF's, and TWDF's, Sewerage Access Charges and Liquid Trade Waste Annual Fees is available on the website. Please phone Macleay Water if you require assistance on 65663200.

Do I get Sewerage Charges on a fire service meter?
No. Any water meter that is proven specifically dedicated fire service and/or fits Macleay Water's criteria for reduced water access charges (Policy C20.8) will not be charged for sewerage.

What if my water meter size doesn't really relate to the size of my sewerage connection?
State Government has set down the guidelines for sewerage and liquid trade waste pricing. However, Macleay Water is prepared to discuss concerns with its customers.

Are large sewage dischargers treated differently?
Yes. Large sewage dischargers and industrial waste strength dischargers have a Usage Charge based on the volume of the waste type (e.g. chemicals, BOD, suspended solids). This is called Excess Mass Charges and these dischargers may be required to enter into specific Liquid Trade Waste agreements with Macleay Water.

  When did sewerage pricing begin?
The first Usage Accounts were issued in January 2006. Usage Charges (sewerage and liquid trade waste) were based on the water consumption after the May/June 2005 water meter reads. The Sewerage Access Charge and Liquid Trade Waste Annual Fee appeared on the Rates notice in July 2005 and residents had the option of paying quarterly instalments.
