Waterwise Program for Schools
Council has been involved in the Waterwise Program for Schools since 2007 when a pilot of the program was introduced at Frederickton Public School. This program takes a whole-of-school, long-term approach to addressing water sustainabililty issues with students and provides teaching support to ensure ongoing and fun delivery. The program links waterwise issues to the curriculum studied by students across all major learning areas. It also promotes active citizenship and encourages community/school involvement and education. The Waterwise Program is sponsored by Kempsey Shire Council, through a regional partnership of local water authorities and Cascade Environmental Education Centre.
Frederickton Public School became the first in Kempsey Shire to receive recoginition as a "Waterwise School" during National Water Week in 2007 and since then nine other local schools have participated in the program and received accreditation as "Waterwise Schools".
